Le 9 novembre 2009, l’Allemagne et l’Europe célèbreront les 20 ans de la chute du Mur de Berlin. À l’occasion de cet événement, le Festival d’Arras proposera en partenariat avec le Goethe Institut une sélection de films autour de ce thème. Il s’agira de suivre le destin de quelques individus, de la fin des années 50 à la période qui suivit la réunification, à travers des fictions et des documentaires réalisés tant en RFA qu’en RDA, d’appréhender leur quotidien et leurs difficultés, mais aussi de voir comment la Guerre froide et le « Mur » ont nourri l’imaginaire des cinéastes étrangers.

The Berlin Wall - A Retrospective
On November 9th, 2009, Germany and Europe will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Arras Festival, along with the Goethe Institute, will contribute to this series of events through a selection of films. Discovering the fates and fortunes of a few individuals, as well as their everyday life and hardships, travelling through time from the late 50's to the post-reunification period, with fiction works and documentaries from both GDR and FRG, and finding out how the Cold War and "The Wall" have inspired foreign directors too - This is was this retrospective is all about.
